Melvix (aka Dagwood Reeves) makes paper mache sculptures of animals, plants and people using junk mail, catalogs or whatever discarded paper is on hand. His technique involves crumpled paper armatures overlayed with multiple layers of torn, sanded and painted paper. The result is a durable, woodlike product that challenges common notions about what can be achieved with paper mache.
Melvix was born in Washington State, USA and attended The Evergreen State College. He lives in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
